A landlord cannot charge a pet fee or a pet deposit for an assistance animal. A landlord also cannot apply a breed ban, a weight limit or a size rule to it. You are still responsible for any real damage the animal causes, just like any tenant. The accommodation removes the pet rules, not your duty to be a good neighbor. None of this shifted when the travel rule changed.

One thing. Air travel. Since the Department of Transportation rule took effect in early 2021, airlines no longer have to allow a Support Animal in the cabin. Housing protection under the Fair Housing Act did not change at all, and public access was never granted in the first place.

No, and that has not changed. Under the Fair Housing Act a Support Animal is an assistance animal, not a pet, so a landlord cannot charge a pet fee, a pet deposit or pet rent for it. You are still responsible for any real damage the animal causes.

A letter is valid for 365 days from purchase, so any letter that old has long expired. For housing today, get a current letter from a Licensed Clinical Doctor. An old letter from the 2020 era would not be honored by a landlord anyway, since it is out of date.
